Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner! The New York State Canal System– an extremely popular boating passage at 524-miles– has extended hours starting tomorrow (open until 10pm). And the General Clinton Canoe Regatta, the longest single day flat water canoe race in the world, is this coming weekend, too. I have fond memories of the Canoe Regatta, having lived in Bainbridge, NY (the race begins at Otsego Lake in Cooperstown and ends in Bainbridge). I covered the races one year, for a radio station’s live event. It was so much fun! The catch phrase for the race is “Float Your Fanny Down the Susquehanny,” lol. The race down the famous Susquehanna River draws well over 3,000 paddlers and countless spectators. I am thinking of taking the kids to see the Canoe Regatta this weekend (if we can make it).

And with the marine activities gearing up in New York State, so do the boat accessories purchases! If you are a boater in need of supplies and/or equipment, check out American Marine Supply. They offer a thorough assortment of marine supplies and boat gear. I used to live off Oneida Lake (and we had two boats and three canoes!) so I know who those supplies can add up. American Marine Supply has everything from fiberglass repair materials to anchoring to nautical jewelry!

Enjoy the boating season (it’s finally here!) and please remember to boat safely.
