Fountain Elms is a historic site in Utica, NY. It was the home of a well-known philanthropic family dynasty in the Victorian Era. The home, practically untouched since 1900, is filled with family mementos and valuables of the Munson/Proctor/Williams family.

This is Part 2 of our exploration of the historic Erie Canal museum in Syracuse, NY. The Erie Canal changed history, with it’s new mode of transportation and the opening of the Gateway to the West.
Although we didn’t get to see the inside of the church (we girls were wearing pants, and were forbidden to enter), we enjoyed the beatiful architecture and visited the monastery’s cemetery. This is a stunning and elegant landmark in the middle of nowhere.
The Utica Observer-Dispatch is Utica’s only newspaper. We went on a guided tour of the entire newspaper process, from reporter’s desks to loading docks. It was quite an educational experience!
