Have you ever attended a church service in a theatre? I’ve been to a lot of church services, and a few of them were very concert-like, in huge theatres. I once saw Carman live, here at the Stanley Theatre in Utica, NY, and that was an absolute blast! It was his “Radically Saved” Tour; ever [...]
Piano bars are alive and well, still. If you are in or will be visiting the Baltimore, MD, area, you might want to check out some Baltimore night clubs for a good time. The Howl At The Moon club, one of the most popular for it’s renowed “dueling piano sing-a-long”, has something called “Barnival [...]
I have a confession to make. Or some might consider it an accomplishment! re: I have never been to the New York State Fair. Nope, never.
Year after year, I’d see the media blitz on TV, hear it on the radio, see it in the papers. It’s a BIG event here in New York State. I [...]
I shake my head and wonder what on earth is going on in Central New York. This is from fellow New York blogger, Strikeslip, at Fault Lines:
…the OD [Utica's newspaper] notes that ‘Utica’ will be removed from the 2009 Boilermaker logo, and also seems to be lacking from the race’s website. Supposedly the organizers [...]

July is perhaps the busiest month for Upstate New York tourist industry. So I do love July.
Our favorite historic site, Fort Stanwix in Rome, released their July schedule. It is so chock-full of juicy events that I thought you would appreciate knowing it, too.
July 7: There’s an evening hours Open House at the fort, [...]
In an earlier post, I mentioned the General Clinton Canoe Regatta held every Memorial Day weekend, in Bainbridge, NY. The Canoe Regatta is the biggest event for the sleepy little town of historic Bainbridge. (By the way, Mormon-founder Joseph Smith was run out of this town for corrupting public morals; Jedediah Smith (not related), that [...]
Utica, NY, is famous for its sumptuous Italian cuisine. Every year, we celebrate the Utica Riggiefest. This year it’s April 26, although some festival events begin Friday evening. It’s held at the Utica Auditorium. The food is incredible. Read more about it here and here.

Re-enactments in Upstate New York are starting to gear up! We are looking forward to seeing some great battles and festivals. The kids absolutely LOVE to dress up, and always appreciate a good show. Besides the annual Fort Stanwix re-enactment and the one at Fort Ticonderoga that we hope to see, there’s the Civil War [...]
Over the summer of 2007, we visited Utica, NY, to have a look at Fountain Elms on Genesee Street. The Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute was also having their July Arts Festival. Fountain Elms is a lovely Victorian Italianate home built by a prominent Utica family. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Houses. The MWP [...]
I caught wind that the Frozen Fire and Lights Weekend is coming to Inlet, NY. This sounds like a terrific way to beat the winter blues. There will be dog sled racing, “vintage” snowmobile races, ice skating, and free refreshments. If the temperature doesn’t drop too much, we are thinking of seeing the dog races! [...]
