Free Internet Service Anywhere, Any Place

We recently stayed at a hotel, and the wireless Internet service was free. I was very pleased. But I have been to places where it is not free. And what if you are camping at a park, or your hotel charges you for the service?

Go to the local library!

WiFi is available at most libraries in the United States, now. The Internet service is usually broadband or cable, so if you have dialup at home, the library service will seem luxurious. And libraries that have WiFi also offer their own library computers for you to use, free of charge. Sometimes you have to sign in to use them, and sometimes there are time limits if the library is busy.

Of course, ultra-private things, like banking, should be avoided at the library just as with other public Internet places. But the library is a great place to check your email, your blogs, touch base with news headlines, or to check directions with Yahoo maps or TripAdvisor. The library is a great resource that is much underrated.
