Ouch. The FX Matt Brewery in Utica, NY, was on fire Thursday. More than five fire districts came to put out the fire, which was emitting toxic fumes into the city.
We visited the brewery a few months ago. It is an historic place and very much a part of the city of Utica. The brewery has kept the city going through some very difficult times, by hiring people for work. It has been a stabilizing influence in the city since 1888.
FX Matt and son says they will rebuild. You can read more about the blaze here.

Oh no!!! Is this the brewery that sponsors the 10k?? This could be horrible. Hopefully there wasn’t too much damage.

Yes, it it– the 15K is the Boilermaker. The Boilermaker derives its name from the boilers at the Brewery. I think the boiler room is destroyed. I doubt the race will be canceled (the show must go on), but the beer drinking party after the race may be sharply down-graded.

Just saw these comments. The 15k Boilermaker will not be affected and the beer will flow as usual at the party. Saranac Thursdays will resume next week. By the way, Earle Reed from Utica Boiler started the race 30 years ago. The name derives from his company and the fact that a boilermaker is a beer drink. Fortunately, none of the historic areas of the brewery were affected by the fire so, as you say, the show and the production of beer will go on. Other breweries have offered to can and bottle until we replace those systems.
