Good Teachers Are Desperately Needed

My daughters and I recently went on a trip to Oneida, NY, as part of our ongoing investigation into the history and location of the Oneida Indian Nation’s ancient Oneida Stone (more on our trip later!). We met with a few representatives of the Oneida Nation and got into a brief discussion of the absolutely crucial importance of education, especially history, in our schools. I have always had an interest in education (some of my relatives were teachers), and have really tried to inculcate the importance of a solid education in my kids. Part of the reason we began this blog was to journalise our travels as we discovered the history of our area and of New York State. My children are now nearing the ages where we are looking into higher education. I am uncomfortable sending them away to college, partially due to expense but also partially due to the fact that my kids can get a much better education online. An online education offers less stress and fewer financial burdens, as well as a flexible schedule. It is my hope that a few of my children will decide to pursue a teaching degree. Even if they choose another field for their vocation, at least they will have a degree under their belts. Teachers will always be needed. In New York State, obtaining a Master of Arts in Teaching degree is a benefit: it means better placement, a higher salary, and more offers with more variety.

One outstanding online university offering a superior education in obtaining a Masters in Teaching is MAT@USC (Master of Arts in Teaching @ the University of Southern California). Their curriculum is superb, and I think MAT@USC goes the second mile– not only does USC offer a superior education ONLINE (which is both affordable and flexible), USC is fully accredited, AND they offer numerous aids and advice for becoming certified in every state of the Union. They have a great Certification Map where you can choose your state where you want to teach, and have access to information about prerequisites, certification reciprocity, a general idea of teachers’ salaries in the state, and more. The Certification Map Blog is an added plus, lending a personal voice about the teaching field, with some advice on becoming a teacher or continuing your education to obtain the illustrious Master of Arts in Teaching and the New York Teacher Certification. I do know that to be a New York State teacher, or even a librarian in some schools and libraries, one must have a Master’s degree to even apply for the job.

Studying and paying for an education is difficult enough. The MAT@USC online program makes getting your Master’s a little easier, more affordable, and much more convenient. The website has many more details, including a live chat feature where you can discuss what MAT@USC can do for you. Schools need good teachers more than ever before!
