Piano bars are alive and well, still. If you are in or will be visiting the Baltimore, MD, area, you might want to check out some Baltimore night clubs for a good time. The Howl At The Moon club, one of the most popular for it’s renowed “dueling piano sing-a-long”, has something called “Barnival Thursdays.” Love the name.

Howl At The Moon is a unique club, centered around piano music (thus it’s name, “piano bar”). I love good music, and this sounds like so much fun! This is from their site:

Howl at the Moon’s piano players take the stage two at a time. The entertainers play for one hour and then yield the stage to two new players. At the changeover, all four piano players stay on stage for what is known as a “four-way.” The four-way occurs at the end of each hour and lasts for two to three songs. This hourly encore allows the piano players to incorporate additional instruments (drums, guitar, and saxophone) into the performance. The four-way raises the energy of the room and provides a defined transition between the piano player shifts.

The “dueling piano sing - a- long” format probably had its modern origins at Pat O’Brien’s in New Orleans. The music of choice was Dixieland, 40’s, and 50’s music. The true roots surely go back further than that because as long as there has been at least one person to lead a song, there has almost always been someone to sing, or howl along.

Apparently, you don’t need to have a beautiful singing voice to have a good time. :D Guests of all ages are encouraged to participate for a “howling” good time. The Howl At The Moon clubs also host birthday parties, anniversary parties, and more. It sounds like a great time! Check out the website for more information, more locations., and a few small videos showcasing the piano show.
