We collect maps. Well… let me rephrase that: we are always buying maps. Why? Because for some inexplicable reason they are always getting lost! So we have a lot maps floating around. Somewhere. We also have a lot of brochures, lol.
I love looking at old maps, and so do the kids. I have one of my local village that dates from 1874. It is amazing! I found an intriguing New York State map at eBay, selling for $100 right now. Imagine finding one of these in your attic! It’s a beautiful collector’s item.
I wouldn’t know the first thing about selling collectibles, however. I have a good share of antiques and keepsakes: a family Bible from 1884, silver thimbles from the early 1900s, old toys from the 1940s, and etc. The problem with selling things like that is I’m never quite sure how much the item is worth. I would hate to underprice something that may be very valuable. Businesses have cropped up to help clueless people like me. There’s a company called iSold It that sells stuff for you! They do some online research to determine the best price for your item, they list it, they handle all the details, they sell it, and they ship it. Then, they send you the check for the sale. It’s becoming a very popular way to recycle old household stuff around the house, too. I think it’s a great idea, and eliminates the hassle of listing things at eBay (something I hate to do) and the shipping chores.
If you have something to sell, and you don’t want the hassle, maybe you should check out iSold It. They have numerous drop-off areas all over the United States. It can be a great way to get rid of Aunt Betty’s old automatic egg-salad sandwich maker or Uncle Ben’s wrench collection!

If there’s anything I collect, they’re Matchbox cars from the early 1970s. They were toys from my childhood and I started collecting Matchbox Superfast models from 1971 about 5 years ago.
I don’t know for how long I’ll be keeping them. In case I do come around to selling some or all of them, I know that I can always refer to stores that specialize in buying and selling old models.
