UGH! How’d you do with this one this week? Tough one!!! Here’s mine:

Perhaps the first thing that will come to people’s minds (besides artificial sweeteners) are mannequins. And I DO happen to have a photo of some! These are “artificial” people– Iroquois Indians and a Scotsman (many early colonists in Upstate New York were Scot and German). I think these artificial dudes are rather well-done.

Visitor Dummies

Here are more artificial characters– cardboard cutouts of John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and Dale Evans Rogers. We saw these when we visited the Rockwell Museum of Western Art.

These are Herkimer Diamonds.

Herkimerdiamond

They are artificial diamonds— not real diamonds, but rather quartz– but are still very rare because they have six sides (18 facets) and two terminations, and are found in “vugs” (clusters) only in certain locations in the world. These are called Herkimer Diamonds because there is a large area of them in the town of Herkimer, NY. People come from all over the world to mine this strange quartz. You can read more about these strange and rare “diamonds” in a post I wrote here.

And finally… hmm… two kitties.. which one is artificial?? Hmm. ;)

    Great ones! We just saw some Cape May Diamonds which are also quartz. I bought a polished one with a loop for a necklace, but it’s not pretty and faceted like the ones you show here.

    I had no trouble finding something “artificial” at all. Fakery is everywhere these days. But not generally so artfully executed as your examples. That’s got to be some of the highest quality quartz I’ve ever seen! And I imagine that you could pass it off for the real thing if you tried. Quartz is just below diamond on the hardness scale after all.

    I love the Herkimer diamonds. It’s hard to tell how big they are. Are they all tiny like diamonds?

    I think you real brown kitty is cool. He must have just eaten because he looks a little stuffed. And the white one is really gorgeous!

    Great entries for this week. Artificial people is a great idea. I like the real kitty in the photo. The last photo in my entry was not apples but a close up of Mountain Ash berries.

    Mannequins are indeed artificial, and those diamonds looks just like real. Don’t think I have heard about such diamonds before, but the cozy, artificial kitten I do believe I have seen lots of; at least my children have had a few :)
