Photo Hunters: Favorite

Hello again, Photo Hunters! I hope my new theme didn’t throw you for a loop. I have extensively revised it, to showcase our New York travels. I also wanted a theme that no one else had. I hope you like this new look and that it loads quickly enough for you.
This week’s Photo Hunters theme is “favorite.” What a wildcard this could be! I decided to do my Photo Hunters on my favorite type of photo– the long road. I photograph from this angle a lot. I just love long, winding roads. It makes me feel like I want to go explore them. So here are some of my favorite photos of my favorite angle:
This photo I took yesterday, before today’s snowstorm dumped 6 inches. It’s one of our country roads near my house.
I love this photo. It’s the very winding Route 9, in the Adirondack Park, near Lake George. It was a glorious ride, but I did get car sick! You can read about our visit to Lake George here.
This photo is from the same trip. It’s the staircase at Fort Ticonderoga.
This is the road leading to the Oneida Community Mansion House in Sherrill, NY. It was a huge complex built by a cult group with a unique brand of Yankee communalism. They were run out of a few Upstate NY towns until they settled on Indian land, here. You can read more about our visit and the history of the sect, here.
Here we are, entering Fort Stanwix in Rome, NY. This is one of our very favorite places to visit. You can read about our visit here.
This is a lovely photo of Potato Hill Road near Boonville, NY. I just love the road name, lol. What a lovely view! This photo was taken on our way to see Pixley Falls. You can read about our trip, here.
Finally, this is a street in downtown Syracuse, NY. We visited the Erie Canal Museum on Erie Boulevard, and went for a stroll down some of the city streets. The Museum was a blast! You can read about our trip, here.
How did your Photo Hunt go today?

Hello Mrs. Mecomber.
You are right – yours is a unique take on the theme! I agree with you, there’s such an air of mystery and adventure that is evoked from a long, winding road.
Have a great weekend

What a wonderful photo. As I was looking at it the song “over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go.” I know it’s not over a river but I felt like your might lead to someone’s grandmother’s house. I don’t know why but it did! It would make a great cristmas card.
Please, feel free to have a look

Simply beautiful. You really get the feeling that anything is possible, that anything could be down there, and the road could lead you anywhere. It’s rather magical, really:)

Love the second photo. Sorry the road made you sick but the fall colors in the pic are terrific!
Dianne on Sat, 13th Dec 2008 8:20 pm
Wow-it must be really quiet and the road lightly traveled to get such awesome shots. I’ll have to try that sometime-after a snowstorm- the speed demons stay off the roads!
All wonderful shots!
Patricia (Pollywog Creek) on Sat, 13th Dec 2008 8:21 pm
Oh, your photos are not “lame” at all, dear friend. I love all of them, but especially the first one, I think. It is such an enchanting view for a southerner like me. I’d love to be able to take a photo from that angle, too. I’ve tried, really. Hope you are having a safe and warm weekend. Blessings!

Thanks for the visit! These are some lovely photographs. I’ve felt the draw of this sort of angle before and usually resisted. I think I’m going to have to revisit the idea. These are just inviting!

I love your new theme but regardless of what it is, I always thoroughly enjoy reading your blogs. As I’ve said many times, you write the most interesting, amusing and entertaining posts. Keep up the good work. The winding road is awesome. I hear you’ll are getting hammered up there with the snow/ice. Down here in Dallas we are having our typical goofy weather. Today is was 70F, extremely windy and then tomorrow all hell is breaking loose with freezing temps and possibly ice.
Rebecca…happy holidays to you and your family!
