Well this is an easy theme for the New York Traveler! I love roads, especially open ones. This is one of my favorite photos. It’s Route 9 in the Adirondack Park, near Lake George. It is a wild, rugged place. This is the road that made me carsick for the first time in 20 years. You can read about our travels to this area here.
This is the road we walked to see Fort Ticonderoga, a 300-year old fort that defended the American colonies from the French in 1754 and from the British in 1776. It’s right on the border of New York and Vermont– the beautiful Lake Champlain divides it. It’s a beautiful area. Isn’t New York beautiful in the autumn?
Here we are walking down another Adirondack Park road, although this road is all the way on the other side of the park, a 3-hour drive west. It’s in White Lake, NY. I love how the trees make a zigzag pattern in the sky. See more about our trip here and here.
This is a photo of Fort Ontario, all the way on the other side of New York State. Lake Ontario is the border between us and Canada. Fort Ontario is another very old fort, used during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution to defend our borders. You can read more about our visit here.
Do “streets” count for today? Here’s a street in lovely Cooperstown, NY. We visited it, see here.
And here’s an older photo I took of 28th Street in Manhattan, when I lived there in the 1980s.
Here’s the road to the historic Utica Insane Asylum, built in the mid 1800s but in great disrepair now. It’s known throughout the world as being the finest example of Greek Revival Architecture anywhere. It is a stunning building. You can read much more about it here.
And here is a photo of Erie Boulevard in Syracuse, looking downtown. We had visited the Erie Canal Museum– what fun! See more about our visit here.
How did your Photo Hunt go today?

All great shots of roads, but the ones I love are the first one with the trees and the fall colors. I miss the colors of autumn since moving to the Gulf coast. :sigh: Thanks for sharing those.
Drop by. My take is very different.

A great selection of roads. The tree tops look like the edge of a zipper.

When people here of NY, they think of NY city. It’s nice to be able to show folks that we have some beautiful scenery here. I was just in the Finger Lakes region with my daughter who was interviewing for a job in Ithaca. Just beautiful and the leaves aren’t in full color yet…

Great pictures. I drove past Syracuse last Saturday!
I agree with Sarge Charlie. Fall is the most beautiful season of the year, especially if you live in Canada!
