Photo Hunters: Time
There is so very much I could do with this topic! I love clocks and am a collector of them. I have a whopping three clocks so far! I guess I need to work a little harder at my collection. But I do love clocks. I love keeping track of time, and learning about the different calendars of different ages, too. And here’s my favorite quote about time, by Benjamin Franklin:
Do not squander Time, for that is the Stuff life is made of.

Well, I am just rattling on and on here. I’ll bet you’re wondering where is my photo about time! When I think of time, I think of time past. Here are some photos of some very old things I own. I keep all these things in my china cabinet.
This is the Mecomber family Bible. It dates back to 1844. It has lists of births, marriages, and deaths, and even has the marriage certificate of my great-great-great grandparents. You can click the picture for a larger view.
Here is a very old game of Cooky Cucumber and her friend Mr. Potato Head. I remember playing with this when I was a very little girl, and they were very old then. I used to take that metal Disney lunchbox to school when I was a girl. My mother took it to school when she was a girl, too.
Here’s a Cootie game from the 1950s. It is a complete set and is valuable.
Finally, here are some very old blocks from the 1920s. I used to play with these, too, when I was a kid, before the lead paint concern in these modern times. Many old wooden blocks are painted with lead paint and it is recommended that children not play with them anymore.

Those are some amazing family heirlooms. Cocky Cucumber, that is a riot. They could not produce that today. And the family bible is beautiful.
Those are some neat things you have! My Mommie remembers Cootie and Mr. Potato Head but she never had the Cooky Cucumber. Your family bible is a real treasure.

Our kids have a Mr. Potato Head. I’d completely forgotten about Cocky the Cucumber. You take me back with that shot.
These are great photos. I had Mr. Potatohead, but I’ve never heard of Cocky the Cucumber!
What a fun twist on the “Time” theme. It is fun looking at your collection of old things. We have Cootie and I played all the time with my boys when they were little. It’s not an antique like yours, but it is a fun game.
Wow! You have a lot of stuff (heirlooms) from different times. Your family bible traces back to 1844! I like the cover and I am sure the family tree will be helpful to all generations. That’s so cool.
My guess is that the quote was inscribed on a plaque in “Gone with the Wind.”

Thanks for all your comments! The Bible got a lot of “wows.” The cover is made of leather and it’s very worn. I don’t know how it got it’s “indent” in the center; I don’t know if it’s wood under the leather that makes it that shape.
The writing inside is very old, too– written in ink and with a quill pen you see in those movies, lol. It’s an amazing feeling to read the words written by one’s ancestors!

I’m sure that bible is something to see in person and fun to read and knowing it’s very old. I know you could never part with it and wouldn’t blame you, but would be nice to see what kind of money it would go for.
