Dear Sodus Bay Museum Director,

It would have been courteous if you had contacted me directly rather than refer to me as "she/he" and not contradicted everything about my post; and it would have been courteous to have given me the chance to explain what I meant when I snapped the photos :-p

I did take photos of Lake Ontario and that is real ice in the photos. And there was a real worn path! Sorry you don't agree, but I did not see you there when I took the photos!

Dear Readers, I just wanted to exapand a little on the article describing the "Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum" (it's not actually called the Sodus Point Lighthouse as the lightstation was built (among other reasons)to aid vessels accessing Great Sodus Bay. In fact, the writer of the article appears slightly unaware of the fact that those very nice images she/he provided (ie.ice fisherman, boats drydocked etc.)were of the Great Sodus Bay frozen over not Lake Ontario which last froze over in 1938...if my reading serves me correctly. The SB Lighthouse Museum is not the "active navigational aid"it once was (from 1870-1901)..but, in fact, the lens is lit every day for all to enjoy. It simply does not display its "character"(flash pattern). The writer described the grounds as "sparse"...well ,in winter that is true. However, during the growing seasons the gardens are rich in color and texture. Our Volunteer Garden Cmtee. does an excellent job by transforming the grounds into a beautiful display(I don't exagerate). In fact, many people visit to enjoy the grounds and views alone.I'm unsure what the writer meant by a "worn path" leading to the arbor,as, we don't have a path leading to the arbor...it must have been a path created in the snow. We have plenty of that! Please don't receive this email as being of a critical nature. As Museum Director,I thought it necessary to clarify a few points to provide a more accurate picture of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum in Sodus Point.Best advice, pay us a visit to find out...just wait until the snow melts! Kind regards, Bradley D McCreary (SBHS Museum Director)

[...] From here, we attempted to gain admission to Fort Ontario (something the kids had wanted to do for a while) but it was closed. Aw! I could only promise the kids that we would return as soon as possible. We actually did get to visit the lake once again, and the fort. Our visit to Fort Ontario is here, and our visit to the lake again during some blustery winter weather. [...]

My ancestors hail from Wayne County, so it was nice to travel in the area. Ugh! "Bitter cold or lots of snow"?

I'll take snow ANYDAY.

I don't believe that Lake Ontario ever totally freezes over. In very cold years it will freeze out a good long way and the lake effect snow will be drastically reduced. Bitter cold or lots of snow - what a choice! Lake Erie does freeze over and that is why Syracuse wins the golden snowball most years.

Wayne county is beautiful! Visit Martha who lives by the orchards.
