Locavores, rejoice! The annual Pride of New York Harvest Fest will soon be underway!
The festival is the crowning joy of the agricultural bounties of New York State. Held at the New York State Fairgrounds, the Pride of New York Harvest Fest brings together over one hundred growers and producers from the entire State, all showcasing their glorious products and offering them to attendees.
This year, the 2011 Pride of New York Harvest Fest will be held on November 5 – 6 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. Tickets are usually $25 apiece, but I have the great honor of giving away TWO tickets for this year’s festival. Admission includes a complimentary wine or beer glass, tasting samples, and an opportunity to win the “Pride of New York Basket of Bounty.” See the Pride of New York Harvest Fest website for all the events, exhibitions and information.
Here’s how to win two tickets to the Harvest Fest, a $50 value! The contest is very easy, I assure you:

The Pride of New York Harvest Fest is organized by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets, the Pride of New York program, the Great New York State Fair, Uncork New York! (New York’s Wine & Grape Foundation), and the New York State Brewers Association. Their goal is to present us with the abundant beauties of New York State agriculture and production. It’s a wonderful event and I hope you will attend! I’m really looking forward to going, and I’ll have all sorts of photos and reviews of the many New York State products. I strongly urge you to attend– it will be the best ever!

Springpad Presents Springsgiving

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Springpad. All opinions are 100% mine.
This is perfect timing! It’s “Springsgiving,” a special contest from Springpad! Ever hear of Springpad? It’s an online organization portal– a very convenient online personal organizer where you can stash your stuff: recipes; restaurants you like or want to visit; receipts; lists; websites; notes; wine lists; everything! It’s a classy website and very intuitive. If you haven’t seen it, and you are an organization freak like me (or even if you’re not a freak!), you should try it. I like it because the stuff you put in Springpad is accessible anytime, anywhere, no matter where you travel, all through your mobile device. I always like to have my email and my organized lists with me wherever I go, so Springpad is perfect. Check out Springpad and enter the contest.
There is a lot to Springpad, but I’ll try to list the basics:
- Springpad is free to register! It only took me seconds. From there, you can start adding stuff– search for restaurants by name and location and save the information for later use; search businesses in like manner; add a recipe from a website or type one in; and there are “Apps” you can use– create a calendar, packing lists, wish lists— the choices are vast and the only limit is your creativity.
- Everything can be saved within your own Springpad account.
- Everything can be accessed from your mobile device! It’s a traveler’s dream.
- There’s lots of stuff for the home organizer, too: weekly meal planners where you can plan menus and make a shopping list at the same time; send pals your recipes via email or Facebook; use Apps for planning gifts, making shopping lists, tracking expenses– it’s just amazing.
OK, now what’s the thing about this “Springsgiving”? It’s part of a promotion, a very nice one! The Springpad food bloggers are promoting their exceptional favorites for Thanksgiving. If you “spring” a recipe to your Springpad recipe box, you’re in the pool for a $100 cash prize! There’s nothing you need to do besides add a recipe; you’re automatically entered. Or, you can enter manually, too: Check out Springpad and enter the contest. I think it’s terrific, because I am in the market for some new (and improved) Thanksgiving recipes. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting pretty tired of the mashed potatoes/green bean casserole thing. Times for some change! I think the Springpad community can help.
It’s really a win-win situation. Springpad is a great community and a great place to organize your plans. Plus, the $100 is a very nice prize at this time of year. Check it out!

How are you with the camera? If you are pretty handy (and I know quite a few of you who are), you may be interested in a really great contest, the Adventure Travel Photo Contest. The prizes are amazing! You could win a trip for two to such places as the Galapagos Islands aboard National Geographic Endeavour; go polar bear watching at Churchill, Manitoba; spend eight days in Tibet; go on a 6-day biking or walking excursion in the Czech Republic and Austria; or go rafting in the Salmon River in Idaho. Wow! All you basically do is submit your best photo of your adventure travel, and then invite your friends and family to vote for your submission.
The contest has been running monthly since July, and ends in November, so it’s advisable that you enter quickly. New winners are chosen every month. You can read more about the rules and regulations by following the link. to the the Adventure Travel Photo Contest. Winning photos will be posted on the Adventure Collection website.
A Winter Contest For Canadians

I thought some of you Canadian readers of New York Traveler.net would be interested in a marvelous contest– win a spanking-new kitchen makeover, valued up to $32,000!! This is a perfect time for such a contest, now that the bulk of the outdoorsy recreational events are ending and we are turning our attentions once again to our cozy homes for the winter. Spending a winter in a brand new kitchen is, to me, worth more than a whole summer on the road!! This looks really great.
OK, the details: The contest is sponsored by Maple Leaf Foods. Visit their website for all the details, but here’s a quick rundown of the contest:
- The contest runs now until December 15, 2009. It is open to Canadian residents over the age of majority (18 or 19 years, check your province).
- The winner does not win an “actual” kitchen. You win a $32,000 cheque toward a kitchen makeover. You can redo the kitchen your way!
- Go the the Maple Leaf website. You can enter your email address every day for a chance to win.
- Maple Leaf is also giving away secondary prizes: Twelve Frigidaire fridges stuffed full with the renowned Maple Leaf Prime Premium frozen chicken for 12 winners; and every contestant is eligible to win a $500 rebate from Frigidaire. (Frigidaire fridges are superior refrigerators!).
- Limit one entry per household per day during the contest period. See the site for more details.
I would LOVE the opportunity to win a kitchen makeover! This is open to Canadian residents only, though. So go enter! Tell me if you win!
I’ll visit and we’ll have tea at your new kitchen table, eh?
