The Utica Observer-Dispatch is Utica’s only newspaper. We went on a guided tour of the entire newspaper process, from reporter’s desks to loading docks. It was quite an educational experience!

Oriskany Museum and the Mighty O

The Oriskany Museum is down the road from the Battlefield site, but the museum is more devoted to the history and memory of the Mighty O, the Navy aircraft carrier of World War II. The museum is chocked full of memoribilia, artifacts, and more concerning the carrier. It also has items relating to the famous Revolutionary War grounds from the Battlefield.

Verona Beach is a lovely little park and beach on the eastern side of Oneida Lake. We arrived very early in the morning– perfect time for avoiding crowds and exploring the wonderful little nooks and crannies. When noontime crowds finally arrived, we jumped in the water to enjoy the ferocious waves.

Lake Chalet Campground, Bridgewater

We spent a few days camping out at this lovely private camping grounds. Lake Chalet is a green-tinted lake suitable for fishing, canoeing, and swimming. It was the kids’ first experience camping, and was a fun one at that!
