How are you with the camera? If you are pretty handy (and I know quite a few of you who are), you may be interested in a really great contest, the Adventure Travel Photo Contest. The prizes are amazing! You could win a trip for two to such places as the Galapagos Islands aboard National Geographic Endeavour; go polar bear watching at Churchill, Manitoba; spend eight days in Tibet; go on a 6-day biking or walking excursion in the Czech Republic and Austria; or go rafting in the Salmon River in Idaho. Wow! All you basically do is submit your best photo of your adventure travel, and then invite your friends and family to vote for your submission.
The contest has been running monthly since July, and ends in November, so it’s advisable that you enter quickly. New winners are chosen every month. You can read more about the rules and regulations by following the link. to the the Adventure Travel Photo Contest. Winning photos will be posted on the Adventure Collection website.

Do a search for “Adirondacks” at YouTube, and there are thousands om videos! I was surfing some today, and found this one. I liked it so much, I had to share. The photography of the area is stunning, and the photographer captures a rare and brilliant rainbow in one of the valleys. Amazing!
Photo Hunters: Protect(ion)

Well this in an interesting theme for Photo Hunters today! Here’s what I tried:
The first thing I think of is protection from possible danger. Like a hungry tiger!
We saw this tiger at the Utica Zoo a few months ago; we were protected from the tigers (and the tigers from the city surrounding) by a 30-foot-high metal cage. Maybe it was the cool weather, but I’ve never seen the tigers so active as they were on our visit. They were pacing around, running, and chasing each other. It’s amazing how graceful and how heavy they are.
A fence also provided protection from this Whooping Swan, who wanted to bite our fingers off. I got a little too close with my camera, and it bit and chomped on my jacket sleeve! Oh, he may LOOK cute– don’t let that fool you. He’s a MONSTER!
Stunning Works of Art From Your Photos

Wow! If you have not yet seen this site, Paint Your Life.com, you really should check this out! Something like this would make such a beautiful Mother’s Day gift.
Paint Your Life.com allows you to send them a photo (either by email, by upload at their website, or by snail mail) and they will create a work of art from your photo– a 100% real handmade painting or drawing. You can choose what art medium (pencil, oil painting, acrylic painting, etc). You pay 20% in advance. When your painting is completed, you are notified by email. You can approve the work immediately and pay the rest of the cost, and Paint Your Life will ship it out FedEx to anywhere in the world; or if you want, you can ask for modifications before making the final payment and approving shipment. Medium-sized paintings take about 2 weeks (give or take) to complete. So if you want to get something like this for your mom, now is the time to order.
I’m really amazed by this service! What a terrific gift these paintings will make– very unique and very, very personal. The prices are very affordable– many are under $100, and some of the biggest and extravagant portraits can be $500. Something like this would also make a terrific anniversary gift for the parents, or a wedding gift for a young couple, wow! You have got to check out the site. It’s really impressive.

I started up a new blog. It’s a photo blog, something I’ve been developing for a while now (but never got a round tuit, ykwim?). Well, it’s UP and it actually has a few photos already! So I am pleased to announce I Love New York Travel.net.
I will attempt to publish a daily photo of whatever strikes my fancy. There is so much to see in wide-open Upstate New York. I also intend to tag little anecdotes or brief impressions with the photo of the day.
I’d certainly appreciate your company! And if you have any suggestions for the blog or photos, let me know.

Welcome to New York Traveler.net. It was created for the purpose of telling the stories of our travels all over New York State.
