Well well well. I had no idea that January was our official New York State “Learn to Ski” month! But when I think about it, it sure makes a lot of sense [inject twinge of sarcasm]. Good thing it’s not in July…. haha! Although we HAVE had snow in July on rare occasion! And not only can you learn to ski this month, but it’s also Learn to Snowboard month! Now that’s something I’d like to try. ;)

Seriously, the I Love NY website has some good resources if you’ve been waiting for a good time for ski or snowboard instruction. Some places offer low-priced or free lessons. Get the scoop at I Love NY’s The Beat and I Love NY website.

A Great Ski Deal in Madison County, NY

Free Pictures | acobox.comBelieve it or not, I have NEVER been skiing, despite living in Upstate New York all my life. Oh, but I have shoveled my fair share above average amount of snow! If you have been pawing at the hooves, waiting for a good deal on a ski package, I have two pieces of good news for you:

ONE: New York State FINALLY has enough snow for skiing!

TWO: There’s a great deal going on for the Madison County ski mountain, Toggenburg, in Fabius, NY. I hear it’s a great trail for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders– a great place to bring the family! If you stay at one of eight participating bed and breakfast resorts, you get your Toggenburg ski ticket for only $25! This is a great discount; regular tickets are priced $45. Since you have to stay somewhere, it may as well be at a beautiful inn and get a discount on your tickets at the same time. There is no limitation to the deal, either– you can have a party of one, or two, or twenty, or 200. If you all stay at one of the participating inns, everyone gets in to the Toggenburg Ski Area, all day, for $25. See the Madison County Stay and Ski website for more details on the deal.

On a personal note: I have passed by many of these bed and breakfast inns, and they are so beautiful and brimming with history. We have long admired the Brae Loch Inn in Cazenovia (I am, after all a Scot!). See the website for a peek into many of the exquisite bed and breakfast inns here in Upstate. Wow! You won’t be disappointed.

Skiing the Great Lakes and More

Summertime! The ice is all gone from our Great Lakes (I’m hoping– I admit, I haven’t checked them all!), and it’s time to break out the summertime gear for summertime activities before cold weather sets in again. I grew up in the small land area between one of New York’s Great Lake (Ontario) and her largest inland lake in the state (Oneida). Water sports is extremely popular for those of us in the Great Lakes states: New York, western Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio. And actually, if you are looking for a superior (pun intended, haha) water sport adventure, check out the state of Wisconsin. There are over 15,000 lakes in the state of Wisconsin, all begging to be skiied on!

And the nice thing is that you don’t need to own a jet ski– you can rent a jet ski in Wisconsin. If you’re looking for some superior equipment at affordable prices, check out Power Sports Rental Network, located in Appleton and Madison, WI. They serve the entire state of Wisconsin with various and inexpensive Wisconsin jet ski rentals. There is th epopular “waver unner” jet ski, unique because it is fully towable. The rentals are on a trailer, so that renters can two the jet ski to the lake of their own choosing, and easily return the rented products to the rental store. Check out Power Sports Rental in Wisconsin. And kepe in mind that we’ve only got four more months until cold weather!

Skiing in July

Not in New York. At Meribel chalet!

Isn’t it funny how we travel to warm beaches in the winter, and ski resorts in the summer?

If you have a hankering for some fun in the snow while we in North America are sweltering in the summer humidity, check out the luxury ski chalets of Courchevel, France, Meribel, France, and St Anton, Austria. I’d love to go for the sight-seeing, at anytime of the year! The Alps and the regions of France are breath-taking. My husband’s ancestry hails from Switzerland, I we hope to see the area someday.

Supertravel has some of the best chalets and hotels in ski resorts around the world. So if you’re looking for planning some luxury skiing holidays, visit their website or call 020-7295-1650 for more information.
