Photo Hunters: Technology

Technology is the theme this week. What shall I choose?! I could easily post dozens of photos! I’ll try to whittle it down. :D

This is our electric service panel. I think more than any other discovery, the discovery and development of electricity has changed our world.

Most electricity is generated through the burning of “fossil fuels” in power plants. But could this kind of electricity generation (in the photo below) become the new standard? There are a few windmill farms near us, in Fenner, NY. Windmill farms are very controversial. They seem to create very little energy for the space they take up, and many of the “farms” are run by foreign investors who reap enormous profits and get U.S. tax money. So while I think windmills are great for small, community use, I don’t see how they are very viable on a vast, corporate level.

Photo Hunters: Space

I shall slack no more!! My previous Photo Hunters have been rather lame. The winter blues have hit me harder than usual this year. It’s been a bone-chilling winter, and I am glad to see it start to ebb away.

Today’s theme is SPACE.. space…space…space…

First thing I thought of was, obviously, OUTER space. This is a photo of when we visited the Children’s Museum in Utica, NY. The entire fourth floor of the museum is devoted to modern science and technological development.

But then I thought of WIDE OPEN SPACE. And we have a lot of that here in New York.

This is when we visited Fort Ontario, in Oswego, NY. That’s the great Lake Ontario there. Isn’t it exquisite? We were up high on berms, as the fort is situated on a small hill looking down on the shores of the lake.

Ahhhhh a person can BREEEEATHE out here.

Beautiful Lake View

Here’s a photo of the Fenner Windmill Project in Madison County, NY. The area has dozens more windmills now. They are enormous. I love how they are framed by the pinkish hue in the sky.

I took the next photo yesterday. It’s a wide open meadow, ready for crops. I liked the furrows so I snapped a photo.

And finally, there is the SPACE of ETERNITY, where we will all spend. This is a small cemetery atop Paris Hill in Paris, NY.

Sneak-Peek of Today’s Trip

It wasn’t a great day for photographs– the atmosphere was hazy and saturated with moisture, giving everything a milky blue cast. But it was good to be out on top of some hills today! Here’s a sneak-peek of what we did: we went up to Cazenovia, Peterboro, and Fenner. We saw the Fenner Renewable Energy Windmills again, in Madison County. We also (finally) located Nichols Pond Park, and took a jaunt through it’s steamy wooded pathways. We also found the location of one of the sacred Oneida Stone altars! I’ll have all the juicy details in posts to come. I have yet to finish preparing all the photos. Here’s one of the windmills in Fenner. You can literally see the humidity in the air. Yuk.
